Early Period (Before 19th Century and Early 19th)     Bukhara region     144 x 212 cm

An early, exceptionally rare Bokhara Suzani with a diamond design of graceful twigs, its intersection points decorated with blossoms.

Obviously inspired by older embroideries made in North India, the design is elegantly drawn and executed in delicate, light colours. The only immediately comparable example was exhibited at the Stuttgart Linden-Museum in 1995 and published in the Usbekistan catalogue (where it is wrongly described as Shakhrisyabz). Very well preserved.
