Composed of five panels, this silk embroidery from Shakhrisyabz in the Emirate of Bokhara originally served as a bedcover or wall hanging. Its glowing colours and exquisitely drawn floral designs make it a particularly beautiful example. The field is divided into a diamond lattice by deep green vines. In the compartments, large flowers with long stems decorated with fan-shaped poppy blossoms, palmettes and star-shaped blossoms form an ascending design. A second design layer drawn to a distinctly smaller scale consists of further flowers, including purple irises, and delicate blossoming twigs. In the wide main border, the large circular blossoms are surrounded by light blue twigs and linked by a lively wavy line of deep green vines. – The lower left-hand corner is damaged; several stains, very good overall condition. Backed with ivory fabric.
