Early Period (Before 19th Century and Early 19th)     Unknown region     172 x 210 cm

Wider than usual, the format of this Suzani suggests that it was conceived as a throw for a bed. The field and border are covered in an extremely dense design of flowers, vines and leaves. The composition of the field design, with a central circular motif and four squares in the corners, almost retreats into the background. The outstanding quality of the colours and embroidery indicates that this is evidently a very old textile. – Backed with a cotton fabric, several missing sections in the foundation.
